Coloured topmakers



Coloured top manufacturing is principally focused on producing 'Pure New Wool' and wool blends of between 17 to 35 microns together with blends of wool/synthetic and wool/noble fibres.

Blends include synthetic fibres such as polyester, nylon, Tencel ,viscose, acrylic, modacrylic and polypropylene. Specialist production includes wool blended with noble fibres such as mohair, alpaca, angora, silk and cashmere.

A commission processing service is also available to customers.

Worsted spinners continue to rely on Bulmer & Lumb coloured top makers for colour and re-combing expertise acquired over many years. Coloured top production is ideally suited for mixtures up to 12,000 kilos per lot. More than one unit can be blended into the drawing operation to produce larger volumes suitable for uniform and corporate wear manufacture. The close liaison between dyer and colour matcher, supported by the most sophisticated colour computer equipment and rigorous quality checks throughout processing, ensures very accurate colour matches from batch to batch. These skills have contributed to Bulmer & Lumb's reputation as a coloured topmaker particularly in the area of 'mix and match' where colour repeatability is essential.

Wool knitwear which is pre-treated for 'Total Easy Care' to ensure its suitability for machine wash is preferred when dyed on the coloured top route. It offers greater colourfastness properties, coupled with far superior shade repeatability than alternative forms of dyeing.

In an effort to provide shorter 'lead times' to the retail sector, top dyed 'stock supported' qualities are offered for immediate despatch in British wool, fine crossbred, machine washable lambswool suitable for 'Total Easy Care' together with various merino wools in a variety of colours.
